About the Test

The TORCH Screen is a comprehensive diagnostic panel aimed at assessing a pregnant individual's exposure to several infectious agents known by the acronym "TORCH" (Toxoplasma, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, and Herpes Simplex Virus). This screening is particularly important during pregnancy to determine if the individual has been previously exposed to or infected by these pathogens, as such infections can potentially be harmful to the developing fetus.

The components of this profile detect antibodies (IgG and IgM) that indicate either current or past exposure to these infectious agents. By identifying these antibodies, healthcare professionals can assess the risk to the fetus and take appropriate measures to monitor and manage the pregnancy. The TORCH Screen helps ensure the well-being of both the expectant mother and the unborn child by allowing for early intervention and treatment if necessary. It is important for expectant mothers to consult with their healthcare providers to determine the suitability of this screening based on individual medical history and circumstances.
