About the Test

The Coagulation Profile is specifically designed to assess the blood clotting ability of an individual. It is an essential tool for diagnosing bleeding disorders such as hemophilia and von Willebrand disease, monitoring patients who are on anticoagulant therapy (e.g., warfarin), and evaluating the overall functionality of the clotting system. This test is crucial before surgical procedures to identify potential excessive bleeding risks and to ensure appropriate clotting parameters are maintained.

What's Tested?

  • Markers
  • • FBC (Full Blood Count): Helps evaluate the overall health of the blood cells, including platelets which play a crucial role in clotting.
    • Prothrombin Time (PT): Measures the time it takes for the plasma portion of blood to clot, and is used to evaluate the adequacy of the extrinsic system and common pathway in the clotting process. This test is particularly important for patients taking anticoagulant medication.
    • APTT (Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time): Tests for the efficiency of the clotting pathways and the adequacy of certain clotting factors. APTT is sensitive to deficiencies in the intrinsic and common coagulation pathways.
    • Fibrinogen: A protein that is critical in the blood clot formation process. This test measures the level of fibrinogen in the blood, which can indicate various bleeding disorders or thrombotic conditions.

Our tailored tests will help you discover health insights to assess your wellbeing.
