Details about Acute Med 2
What is Acute Med 2?
Acute Med 2 is a large multi-system blood and urine profile used to assess organ function, metabolic balance, inflammation, iron status, and cardiovascular risk in one test. It is often used when symptoms are unclear and a wide internal assessment is required.
This panel combines:
• Full Blood Count (FBC)
• Full cholesterol profile
• Liver Function Tests (ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, bilirubin, albumin)
• Kidney function and electrolytes (creatinine, eGFR, sodium, potassium, chloride, urea, phosphate, adjusted calcium)
• Glucose and HbA1c (diabetes markers)
• Urinalysis (9 urine markers)
• Creatine Kinase, Uric Acid, CRP
• Full iron studies (Ferritin, Iron, TIBC, Transferrin, Transferrin Saturation)
It acts as a deep “internal scan” through blood and urine analysis.
Why do I need Acute Med 2?
This test is useful when symptoms are broad, unexplained, or involve multiple body systems. It helps detect hidden problems affecting the liver, kidneys, heart risk, blood health, and metabolism.
Common reasons for testing include:
• Persistent fatigue
• Unexplained pain or weakness
• Suspected infection or inflammation
• Metabolic concerns or diabetes risk
• Kidney or liver monitoring
• Iron deficiency or overload suspicion
• Cardiovascular risk assessment
• General unexplained unwell feeling
Benefits of the test
1. Multi-organ assessment in one panel
2. Detects inflammation and infection
3. Assesses diabetes and metabolic health
4. Evaluates kidney and liver function
5. Full cardiovascular lipid assessment
6. Detects iron deficiency or overload
7. Includes urine testing for kidney and infection clues
8. Useful for unexplained symptoms
Expanded benefit explanation
Instead of ordering multiple separate tests, this profile gives clinicians a broad and deep view of what may be happening internally.

Follow these guidelines for accurate results
Sample Timing
Where possible, attend your blood test between 7am and 12pm. Please wait until any short-term illness or infection has fully resolved before testing. Avoid intense exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as this can affect certain markers.
Fasting & Hydration
Fasting is not always required, but some tests may recommend it. If fasting is advised, avoid food for 8–12 hours before your appointment and drink water only. Stay well hydrated, as this helps with sample collection and accuracy.
Medications & Supplements
Continue prescribed medications unless advised otherwise by your clinician. Avoid vitamin, mineral, or biotin supplements for at least 24–48 hours before your test, as these can interfere with results. If you are unsure about any medication or supplement, please let us know before your appointment.
Hormones & Menstrual Cycle
For hormone-related tests, timing within your menstrual cycle may be important. If relevant, follow any specific guidance provided on your test page.
If you have any questions or special circumstances, our team is happy to advise before your appointment.
