Details about Basic Screen
What is a Basic Screen?
The Basic Screen is a practical blood test panel designed to assess core areas of health including blood count, kidney function, liver health, cholesterol balance, inflammation, and blood sugar.
This profile includes:
• Full Blood Count (FBC)
• Kidney markers: Creatinine, eGFR, Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Urea, Phosphate
• Cholesterol profile: Total Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides, Cholesterol ratios
• High-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP)
• Liver markers: ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, Bilirubin, Albumin
• Glucose
It provides a clear overview of how your major organs and metabolic systems are functioning.
Why do I need a Basic Screen?
Many common health conditions develop gradually without obvious symptoms. This test helps detect early changes in liver, kidney, heart, and metabolic health.
Reasons for testing include:
• Routine health check-up
• Persistent fatigue
• Monitoring cholesterol or blood sugar
• Assessing liver and kidney function
• Investigating general unwell feeling
Symptoms that often prompt testing include:
• Tiredness
• Dizziness
• Headaches
• Poor concentration
• Weight changes
Benefits of the test
1. Assesses core organ function
2. Detects early kidney and liver stress
3. Evaluates cardiovascular risk
4. Screens for inflammation
5. Checks blood sugar balance
6. Evaluates blood cell health
7. Suitable for routine monitoring
8. Provides a strong baseline for future comparison
Expanded benefit explanation

Follow these guidelines for accurate results
Sample Timing
Where possible, attend your blood test between 7am and 12pm. Please wait until any short-term illness or infection has fully resolved before testing. Avoid intense exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as this can affect certain markers.
Fasting & Hydration
Fasting is not always required, but some tests may recommend it. If fasting is advised, avoid food for 8–12 hours before your appointment and drink water only. Stay well hydrated, as this helps with sample collection and accuracy.
Medications & Supplements
Continue prescribed medications unless advised otherwise by your clinician. Avoid vitamin, mineral, or biotin supplements for at least 24–48 hours before your test, as these can interfere with results. If you are unsure about any medication or supplement, please let us know before your appointment.
Hormones & Menstrual Cycle
For hormone-related tests, timing within your menstrual cycle may be important. If relevant, follow any specific guidance provided on your test page.
If you have any questions or special circumstances, our team is happy to advise before your appointment.
