Details about Heart Health Profile
Understanding the Heart Health Profile blood test
The Heart Health Profile is a combined blood test designed to assess key risk factors linked to heart disease, stroke, and metabolic health. Rather than focusing on a single marker, this profile brings together lipid levels, inflammation, and glucose control to provide a broader picture of cardiovascular risk.
This profile includes:
- Cholesterol Profile
- High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP)
- Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c)
Together, these markers help identify early cardiovascular risk, even in people without symptoms, and support proactive heart health management.
When a Heart Health Profile blood test is recommended
This test is recommended for anyone who wants a proactive assessment of heart and metabolic health or who has risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Heart disease often develops silently over many years, making early testing particularly valuable.
The Heart Health Profile is commonly used for prevention, routine health screening, and monitoring existing risk factors.
Testing may be appropriate if you:
- Want to assess your overall heart health
- Have a family history of heart disease or stroke
- Have high blood pressure or excess weight
- Have diabetes or pre-diabetes risk
- Have previously abnormal cholesterol results
- Want reassurance as part of a general health check
- Are monitoring lifestyle or treatment changes
- Are over 40 or have cardiovascular risk factors
Benefits of the Heart Health Profile test
- Comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment
Evaluates lipids, inflammation, and glucose control together. - Identifies hidden risk early
Detects risk factors before symptoms develop. - Includes inflammation assessment (hsCRP)
Helps identify vascular inflammation linked to heart disease. - Assesses long-term blood sugar control
HbA1c links diabetes risk with heart health. - Supports personalised prevention strategies
Helps guide lifestyle and clinical decisions. - Useful for monitoring progress over time
Tracks improvements from diet, exercise, or treatment. - Simple blood test with no preparation required
No fasting or lifestyle changes needed. - Provides clear, actionable insights
Supports informed heart-health planning.
How the test is carried out
We offer two convenient UK-wide testing options:
Clinic-based blood testing
- Choose your nearest UK clinic
- A healthcare professional collects a blood sample
- The sample is analysed in a certified laboratory
- Results are issued once testing is complete
Home or hotel blood collection (+£60)
- A qualified phlebotomist visits your home, workplace, or hotel
- Blood is collected at a time convenient for you
- No clinic visit required
- Available nationwide across the UK
Both options provide the same laboratory accuracy and clinical reliability.
Understanding your Heart Health Profile results
Cholesterol Profile
The cholesterol profile evaluates blood fats linked to cardiovascular risk, including total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides.
- High LDL or triglycerides may increase heart disease risk
- Low HDL may reduce protective cardiovascular effects
UK guideline ranges vary depending on individual risk factors.
High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP)
hsCRP is a marker of low-grade inflammation within blood vessels, which is linked to cardiovascular disease.
- Low levels suggest lower inflammatory risk
- Elevated levels may indicate increased cardiovascular risk
Results are interpreted alongside cholesterol and other factors.
Glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c)
HbA1c reflects average blood sugar levels over the previous 2–3 months.
- Normal levels indicate healthy glucose control
- Raised levels suggest pre-diabetes or diabetes, which increases heart disease risk
HbA1c is a key marker linking metabolic and cardiovascular health.

Follow these guidelines for accurate results
Sample Timing
Where possible, attend your blood test between 7am and 12pm. Please wait until any short-term illness or infection has fully resolved before testing. Avoid intense exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as this can affect certain markers.
Fasting & Hydration
Fasting is not always required, but some tests may recommend it. If fasting is advised, avoid food for 8–12 hours before your appointment and drink water only. Stay well hydrated, as this helps with sample collection and accuracy.
Medications & Supplements
Continue prescribed medications unless advised otherwise by your clinician. Avoid vitamin, mineral, or biotin supplements for at least 24–48 hours before your test, as these can interfere with results. If you are unsure about any medication or supplement, please let us know before your appointment.
Hormones & Menstrual Cycle
For hormone-related tests, timing within your menstrual cycle may be important. If relevant, follow any specific guidance provided on your test page.
If you have any questions or special circumstances, our team is happy to advise before your appointment.
