1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol)
This test measures 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, the biologically active form of vitamin D. It is used to investigate calcium imbalance, kidney disease and...
The MRSA Rapid PCR test detects MRSA colonisation from a single swab taken from a specific body site. It provides fast and reliable screening results using molecular testing.

SelectedThe MRSA Rapid PCR (one swab per site) test uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology to detect the DNA of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from a single, specified body site. Common screening sites include the nose, throat, groin, wounds, or skin lesions.
PCR testing is highly sensitive and can identify MRSA even when bacterial levels are very low. Each swab tests one anatomical site only, allowing targeted screening based on clinical or institutional requirements.
This test is designed to detect MRSA colonisation, not to diagnose active infection.
MRSA carriage often causes no symptoms but increases the risk of transmission and infection, particularly in healthcare environments.
You may need this test if you:
Require pre-admission or pre-surgical screening
Are undergoing an invasive procedure
Work in healthcare or residential care
Have had previous MRSA colonisation
Are immunocompromised
Need clearance screening
Have been advised to screen a specific site only
Targeted single-site testing allows focused and efficient screening.
Rapid detection using PCR technology
Faster than traditional culture methods.
Highly sensitive and specific
Detects low-level MRSA colonisation.
Targeted single-site screening
Tests only the required anatomical site.
Ideal for pre-procedure screening
Commonly accepted in clinical pathways.
Non-invasive sampling
Simple swab collection.
Suitable for asymptomatic individuals
No signs of infection required.
Supports infection control measures
Helps reduce MRSA spread.
Flexible testing approach
Multiple sites can be tested if required, using separate swabs.
Clinic-based testing (UK-wide)
Choose your nearest UK clinic
Single swab taken from the required site
Sample sent to the laboratory for PCR analysis
Results issued once testing is complete
Home or hotel visit (+£60, UK-wide)
Swab collected at home or hotel where appropriate
Sample securely transported to the laboratory
MRSA DNA not detected
UK standard: Negative
No evidence of MRSA colonisation at the tested site
MRSA DNA detected
UK standard: Positive
Indicates MRSA colonisation at the sampled site
Colonisation does not mean active infection but may require infection control precautions depending on context.

WhatsApp UsFollow these guidelines for accurate results
Where possible, attend your blood test between 7am and 12pm. Please wait until any short-term illness or infection has fully resolved before testing. Avoid intense exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as this can affect certain markers.
Fasting is not always required, but some tests may recommend it. If fasting is advised, avoid food for 8–12 hours before your appointment and drink water only. Stay well hydrated, as this helps with sample collection and accuracy.
Continue prescribed medications unless advised otherwise by your clinician. Avoid vitamin, mineral, or biotin supplements for at least 24–48 hours before your test, as these can interfere with results. If you are unsure about any medication or supplement, please let us know before your appointment.
For hormone-related tests, timing within your menstrual cycle may be important. If relevant, follow any specific guidance provided on your test page.
If you have any questions or special circumstances, our team is happy to advise before your appointment.
