Details about Prostate Profile
What is the Prostate Profile?
The Prostate Profile is an advanced blood test designed to assess prostate health and stratify prostate cancer risk more accurately than PSA testing alone. It evaluates prostate-specific markers alongside inflammatory and growth-related biomarkers.
This profile includes:
-
Total Prostate Specific Antigen (Total PSA)
-
Free Prostate Specific Antigen (Free PSA)
-
Interleukin-8 (IL-8)
-
Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 (MCP-1)
-
Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)
-
Prostate Cancer Risk Score
By combining PSA fractions with inflammatory and cellular signalling markers, this profile provides a more nuanced assessment of prostate disease risk.
Why do I need a Prostate Profile?
PSA levels alone cannot always distinguish between benign prostate enlargement, inflammation, and prostate cancer. The Prostate Profile adds biological context by assessing inflammation and growth signalling associated with malignant progression.
This test is particularly useful for men with borderline or elevated PSA, family history of prostate cancer, or urinary symptoms where clarity is needed before further investigation.
You may benefit from this test if you experience:
-
Elevated or rising PSA levels
-
Family history of prostate cancer
-
Urinary symptoms (poor flow, urgency, nocturia)
-
Benign prostatic enlargement
-
Prostate inflammation or infection history
-
Previous inconclusive prostate tests
-
Desire for advanced prostate risk assessment
-
Monitoring prostate health over time
Benefits of the Prostate Profile
-
Improves prostate cancer risk stratification
Goes beyond PSA to assess biological risk. -
Differentiates benign vs malignant patterns
Helps distinguish inflammation from cancer-related activity. -
Reduces unnecessary invasive procedures
Supports informed decisions about biopsy or imaging. -
Assesses inflammatory drivers
IL-8 and MCP-1 reflect prostate inflammation and immune activity. -
Evaluates growth signalling pathways
EGF provides insight into cellular proliferation risk. -
Supports personalised prostate monitoring
Useful for active surveillance strategies. -
Adds clarity to borderline PSA results
Particularly valuable when PSA results are inconclusive. -
Non-invasive advanced prostate assessment
Requires only a blood sample.

Your Prostate Profile results explained
Low-risk profile
Results indicate low prostate cancer risk, with PSA fractions and inflammatory markers within reassuring ranges. This pattern is more consistent with benign prostate conditions or stable prostate health.
Routine monitoring may be sufficient.
UK reference interpretation:
-
Low risk: Within low-risk scoring range
Intermediate-risk profile
Findings suggest increased biological activity or inflammation that may warrant closer monitoring. PSA ratios or inflammatory markers may be borderline or mildly elevated.
Further assessment or repeat testing may be considered.
UK reference interpretation:
-
Intermediate risk: Moderate-risk scoring range
High-risk profile
Results indicate elevated prostate cancer risk based on combined PSA, inflammatory markers, and growth factor activity. This pattern suggests increased likelihood of malignant processes.
Specialist referral and further diagnostic evaluation may be advised.
UK reference interpretation:
-
High risk: High-risk scoring range

Follow these guidelines for accurate results
Sample Timing
Where possible, attend your blood test between 7am and 12pm. Please wait until any short-term illness or infection has fully resolved before testing. Avoid intense exercise for 24–48 hours beforehand, as this can affect certain markers.
Fasting & Hydration
Fasting is not always required, but some tests may recommend it. If fasting is advised, avoid food for 8–12 hours before your appointment and drink water only. Stay well hydrated, as this helps with sample collection and accuracy.
Medications & Supplements
Continue prescribed medications unless advised otherwise by your clinician. Avoid vitamin, mineral, or biotin supplements for at least 24–48 hours before your test, as these can interfere with results. If you are unsure about any medication or supplement, please let us know before your appointment.
Hormones & Menstrual Cycle
For hormone-related tests, timing within your menstrual cycle may be important. If relevant, follow any specific guidance provided on your test page.
If you have any questions or special circumstances, our team is happy to advise before your appointment.
